Six
people were killed and 3 injured when a gold mine collapsed in the Ashanti
region of Ghana.
The
people who died were allegedly digging illegally on land belonging to a
mining company in the town of Kyekyewere when the accident occurred, Vanguard reports.
Ghana’s
central gold mining areas have recently experienced a spike in illegal mining,
driven by high prices for gold. The country is Africa’s
second-largest producer of gold.
