According to Daily Trust report, members of the deadly sect stormed the town and attacked the soldiers’ base located at Railway area of the town.
They were said to have engaged the soldiers in the gun duel.
Though no official casualty figure has been released, credible sources said four of the insurgents, three soldiers and two civilians lost their lives, while 10 people were injured.
According to residents, who fled to Damaturu shortly after the incident, many government buildings were razed during the attack.
One of the residents who pleaded anonymity said, "Base center (vocational center), GSS Goniri and the government lodge were all burnt down by the insurgents."
The resident explained that in recent times, the insurgents had been frequenting the town to preach to the people without interference and whenever they reported to security agents, they would be told that as long as they are not attacking anybody, they have no problem with them.
This attack is coming some months after soldiers foiled plans of the armed terrorists groups to carry out an attack in Goniri Community, Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State.
Boko Haram attack is becoming a daily occurrence in Nigeria. Just this morning, a bomb went off at the busy Monday Market close to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) building in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, with at least 10 people dead and 27 others severely injured.
